Scripture for the week
Verse: “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
Reflection:
Holy Week brings us face‑to‑face with a love so fierce and unwavering that it walked a road no one else could bear. Jesus did not drift toward the cross, He chose it. He stepped into betrayal, into injustice, into cruelty, because He remembered us. Because He knew this was the only way to rescue humanity.
The journey was brutal. He was whipped until His body trembled. He was beaten and mocked, spat upon by the very ones He came to save. Soldiers pressed a crown of thorns into His head, each thorn a reminder of the curse He came to break. Then they placed a wooden cross, heavy, rough, splintered, onto His torn shoulders. Every step was agony. Every breath was a battle. His body was in scorching pain, yet He kept going.
He could have said no. He could have turned away. He could have called angels to stop it all. But He didn’t. Love held Him there. Love for you. Love for me. Love for a world that had no way back to God unless He made the way Himself.
And God the Father watched, His heart breaking, yet His love for us unshaken. He allowed His Son to endure what we could not, because His desire to redeem us was greater than the agony of watching Jesus suffer.
Words will never be enough to match what Christ has done. We cannot repay Him. We cannot offer anything equal to His sacrifice. All we can bring is our gratitude, our surrender, our awe. Holy Week reminds us that salvation was not cheap. It was not easy. It was not painless. It was love, immense, unstoppable, sacrificial love, poured out for us.
Prayer:
Jesus, my heart trembles as I remember the road You walked for me.
You endured pain I cannot imagine, rejection I cannot fathom, and suffering I could never bear. You carried the cross because You would not abandon us.
You chose love when You could have chosen escape. Lord, words are not enough. I have nothing to offer that compares to what You gave. But I give You my heart, imperfect, grateful, humbled. Teach me to live in the shadow of Your sacrifice and the light of Your resurrection. Let Your love reshape me, steady me, and draw me closer to You this Holy Week.
Amen
